Japan - Weird Advertising! They Don't Just Hand Out Tissues In The Streets Anymore!

In Japan they often hand out free tissues on the street, but the other day a guy dressed up as god knows what  was handing out free rice balls in Shinjuku!

In Japan the ads on the tissues are often aimed at girls so guys don't usually receive them and they also assume Gaijin(foreigners) can't read kanji therefore cannot read the ad.

I'm both a guy and a Gaijin so I almost never receive them.

but don't worry, if you really want one all you have to do is ask.

Sunshine street in Ikebukuro is a hot spot for free tissues.

Japan - Super Convenient Or Just Plain Lazy?

In Japan they actually regularly sell...
1. ready-buttered and sliced bread, sold by the slice and
2. ready-sliced bread with the crusts removed, sold in sets of 4.

Also Japanese people usually peel grapes before they eat them, when I told them I eat them whole and with the skin, they couldn't believe it.

Japanese People Really Can Sleep In Any Position On The Train.

The other day while I was on the Metro  I noticed everyone seemed distracted by something.

Anarchy In Tokyo After Football

Following the football match "Japan VS Australia" Shibuya exploded with excitement, the most crowded area was centered around "Hachiko"(a dog statue and meet up spot) near the station.

Everybody was shouting and high fiving("high touch" in Japanese).
The police were blowing whistles left and right, they even made a human barricade at the crossing including the famous giant crossing "Scrambles", but as soon as the light turned green hundreds of people from all of the crossings combined crashed together in celebration, it was quite a sight.

And that was just a draw, imagine what they do when they win! but to be fair that draw means they are going to the world cup!

Getting bumped from left and right, sorry this is the best picture I could get.

3 Weird And Wonderful Things In Japan - Luke Japan Walker

Hi, my name is Luke! I am currently living in Tokyo, Japan.
this is my first time blogging so please excuse me if it's terrible.

There are so many funny, interesting and down right strange things here in Japan so I decided to make this blog so I can share them with you.

I'll keep the first blog short (because I'm lazy (。-_-。))
and start off by sharing some with you.

Apple Vending Machine

Yes you read it right, an apple vending machine!
Yet another crazy idea from Japan. This machine sells 2 kinds of products,
apples with skin(not peeled) or without the skin(ready peeled), the price is around
190yen($1.90 or 1.25pounds), each pack includes 4 or five slices of apple. I mostly saw people buying them for their kids. Well I guess it's healthy so not a bad idea.

Corn Soup Ice Lolly

Alright, first of all I love the hot corn soup in a can you can get over here,
but this is taking it to another level. ガリガリくん(Garigari-kun) is a well known,
still very popular and rather nostalgic to most Japanese people.

The classic one is a blue soda flavored ice lolly (if you are an Otaku then they are just like the ones from the game Kingdom hearts II)

Personally I think they taste great! and they don't melt all over your hand, are perfect for battling the unbearably humid Japanese summer and for only  around 60yen, it's a bargain!
I have yet to find the courage to try the corn soup flavor though.

Turtle Fishing!?

(by the way they also had eel fishing)
We all know how much the kids and adults(me) here in Japan like the traditional fishing for goldfish with a paper paddle and small bowl, in fact you can usually find two or three of these stands at almost every street festival, but recently there are more challenging ways of fishing and more exotic prizes.

Here's how it works, you have a Japanese cracker shaped like a bowl(just like the woman is holding in the picture) that they attach to a thin metal rod rigged to swing downwards just to make it that much harder.

The trick is to turn the rod and flip your turtle friend into one of the plastic bowls that floats on the water, but don't worry if you have three tries and still fail to catch one you can receive a free sympathy turtle of your choice.

Well there is the end of my first blog, I hope you found it interesting, if so please let me know and I will make many more.

Thanks for reading.
Luke Japan Walker.
